Canada
Canada
has one of the world's highest standard of living and for the past
several years has ranked Number one in the world on the United Nations
Human
Development Index, which weighs various factors, such as political
and economic rights, social services , educational and employment
opportunities, physical safety, etc. In addition, Transparency International
ranked Canada as the fifth least corrupt country in the world.*
Canada an affluent, high tech industrial society, with market based,
free
enterprise economy , affords many opportunities to immigrants. The
immigration scheme is not based upon nationality nor upon prearranged
employment , unlike the United States program, but, rather, uses a
point system which is equally applied to all nationalities.
As a result, Canada welcomes more immigrants per year than any other
country and has adopted an official policy of multiculturalism , which
encourages immigrants to preserve their own cultural heritage.
In addition, Canada opens the door to the United States for Indians
who, once
they become Canadian permanent residents , no longer require a visa
in order to visit United States. Moreover, because Canada allows permanent
residents to apply for citizenship after having lived three years
in Canada, Indo-Canadians who are experienced in professional and
technical fields and have a U.S. job offer in their field may accept
employment in the United States merely by presenting themselves at
the U.S. border where they will be issued an employment authorization.(See:"
http://www.americanlaw.com/basic/tn.html " for greater details.)
For these reasons and others , Canada is the destination of choice
for many of
the world's immigrants.
